Honeywell 50250 True HEPA Air Purifier
Honeywell 50250 True HEPA Air Purifier is simple to use, yet very effective and powerful, low maintenance air purifier.
Thanks to its multilayered air filtration, Honeywell 50250 captures 99.97% of 0.3 microns or larger particles, exhausting practically the clean air - highly recommended for people with asthma, allergies and similar health issues.

Honeywell 50250 Features and Specifications
Honeywell 50250 is relatively large unit - it is 18 inches (~46 cm) in diameter and 19 inches (~48 cm) in height.
It features 360° air intake and air top exhaust, minimizing energy loses and maximizing efficiency. Also, so-called 'SurroundSeal Technology' helps minimize air leaks, ensuring that practically all air passes through the filters of the unit.
Honeywell 50250 is very simple to use unit - nonetheless, when it arrives, be sure to thoroughly read the manual/instructions.
Unit's control knob has four positions:
- Off: Unit is turned off.
- Turbo: Unit is turned on and the fan operates at the maximum speed allowing maximum air purification. This mode is recommended when the unit is turned on after some time and when air must be quickly purified. Although Honeywell 50250 is quiet unit, this is the 'noisiest' operating mode.
- Day: Fan operates at the medium speed, balancing air purification with the noise, which is 'lost' in the background noise not far away from the unit.
- Sleep: Fan operates at the lowest speed. Unit purifies the air, but at the reduced rate. However, noise is very low - this mode is recommended for periods when people, children or even pets are at sleep and one doesn't want to disturb them during sleep, but also want to continue with the air filtration.
Note: many people simply turn on the unit on 'Turbo', let it work for few minutes (depending on the room size) and then switch to Sleep mode and forget about the unit until the indicator lights notify them that it is time to change or clean the air filters.
Honeywell 50250 is recommended for the rooms up to 390 square feet (~36 square meters). Its AHAM certified CADR ratings are 250 for smoke, 250 for dust and 250 for pollen.
Generally, Honeywell 50250 is able to quickly purifies air even in the largest rooms. For example:
- 80 square feet (~7.4 square meters) small room - 23x per hour (every 2 minutes and 36 seconds!),
- 149 square feet (~13.8 square meters) medium room - 12x per hour (every 5 minutes),
- 390 square feet (~36.2 square meters) extra large room - 5x per hour (every 12 minutes).
Note: all these ratings are measured with brand new filters and the fan at the maximum speed. Also, volume of the rooms depends on the height, too, and that can vary from home to home.
Honeyell 50250 comes with filter sensors and indicator lights that warn the user when it is time to change or clean the air filters.
Honeyell 50250 Air Filtration
Honeyell 50250 is true HEPA air purifier thanks to the combination of active carbon pre-filter and the main HEPA air filter.
Honeywell 50250 comes with one activated carbon pre-filter, model 38002. Such carbon pre-filter captures large particles and help reduce odors and common household gases. Also, it prolongs life of the main HEPA air filter and should be replaced every three months, depending on the use and the amount of airborne particles. It is NOT a washable air filter.
Model 38002 air filter should be replaced with HRF-AP1 or HRF-APP1 activated carbon air pre-filters.
Both filters are designed for capturing air particles and reduction of odors and gases, just note that HRF-APP1 also features additional zeolite for improved odor reduction - if you have pets or don't like smells and odors in general, HRF-APP1 model is highly recommended, despite it being slightly more expensive filter.
Main true HEPA air filter is Honeywell 24000 model. It is long lasting air filter that can be cleaned with, for example, vacuum cleaner, but it CANNOT be washed - washing will ruin the air filter.
This air filter lasts up to 1 to 5 years, depending on the quality of pre-filter, cleaning frequency, amount and type of air pollutants, unit's use etc.
If Honeywell 24000 air filter should be replaced, go for Honeywell original 24000 air filter - it is not the cheapest air filter on the market, but what you pay is what you get.
Also, there is an optional HRF-F1 filter that can be used instead of 24000 filter. But personally, although HRF-F1 is original Honeywell part, IMHO, it shouldn't be done.
Here is the catch: Honeywell 50250 requires three HRF-F1 stacked filters instead of one 24000 filter and no matter how good their seal is, as they get dirty, more and more air will pass uncleaned between these filters.
For short: when main 24000 air filter gets dirty, clean it. And when there is no more use of cleaning it, replace it with original 24000 air filter.
For Short: Honeywell 50250 is simple, affordable, but also reliable and high capacity air purifier. It doesn't feature WiFi or Bluetooth connectivity, and it doesn't support Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, and some people complain about lack of such features. On the other hand, many people appreciate the simplicity of the unit.
Also, after changing 24000 main air filter with non-OEM filters, many people complain about degradation of performances. Again, use OEM air filters, regardless of the air purifier model and brand!
New OEM 24000 HEPA air filter is not cheap, put it is money well spent investment.
