Bissell 2486 CleanView Features and Specifications
Despite being full size upright vacuum cleaner with many features and options, Bissell 2486 CleanView is relatively lightweight unit, weighing 13.8 pounds (~6.25 kg). Obviously, there are lighter units on the market, but also much heavier ones.
Bissell 2486 CleanView is intended for vacuuming various floor types and elevated surfaces, including bare floors, carpets, area rugs, stairs, upholstery, car interiors etc.
Unit is powered with 8 Amps motor, providing plenty of suction over Bissell's 13.5 inches (~34.3 cm) wide cleaning path.
Power cord is 25 feet (~7.6 m) long and in combination with 6 feet (~1.83 m) long cleaning hose, ensures long cleaning reach using just one wall power socket. Bissell 2486 CleanView doesn't feature automatic power cord rewind system.
Main cleaner head features so-called 'OnePass Technology' - good suction is combined with the spinning brushroll, helping the user clean dirt in as less passes as possible, preferably with the 'single pass - hence the name.
OnePass technology, wide cleaning path and long cleaning reach help the user clean large floor areas relatively quickly.
Main cleaner head also features 'Scatter-Free Technology' - it is designed to limit scattering of debris, especially on the bare floors.
While brushroll does a very good job while cleaning (it picks up surface dirt and pulls out deeply embedded dirt and hair, pet hair included), it doesn't feature tangle-free technology - it is up to the user to periodically remove tangled pet and human hair from the brushroll.
Fortunately, brushroll cover is translucent, allowing the user the monitor the condition of the brushroll and to clean it when the time comes.
When vacuuming bare floors, keep in mind that Bissell 2486 CleanView doesn't feature brushroll On/Off switch - as soon as the unit is turned on, the brushroll spins. When vacuuming the bare floors, especially the sensitive ones, increase the main cleaner head so that the brushroll doesn't touch the floor's surface.
Main cleaner head features adjustable height with 5 settings, which is very important when vacuuming not only bare floors, but carpeted areas as well - if the setting is too low, unit is hard to push-pull, and if the setting is too high, brushroll will not clean the carpets properly.
Out of 5 settings, first one is for low-pile carpets and area rugs, middle setting is for medium-pile carpets, while setting 5 is for high-pile carpets, thick area rugs and similar surfaces.
Note: if the unit is hard to push/pull, increase the main cleaner head height by one setting. Height selector is on the main cleaner head, rather low, and that may cause some problem for people having back issues. Although Bissell 2486 CleanView is easy to use and maintain, when the unit arrives, be sure to read the manual thoroughly.
Bissell 2486 CleanView Air Filtration System
Air filtration system is based on the cyclonic separation, pre-motor air filter and post-motor exhaust filter.
Bissell 2486 CleanView features transparent dirt bin allowing the user to see type and amount of vacuumed dirt. Dirt bin capacity is 1 liter - dirt bin should not be filled above the 'Maximum Fill Line' since cyclonic separation depends on the empty area above the 'Maximum Fill Line'.
Dirt bin is easy to empty via bottom empty system directly into the trashcan.
Pre-motor air filter is a washable foam air filter. It may be washed using warm water and some mild detergent and then air dried until completely dry - never assemble the unit with wet pre-motor air filter or no filter at all since such air filter may damage the unit and render its 2-year limited warranty void.
Since these filters are rather cheap and may be ordered from online shops and stores, some users have several of them - while one is in the unit, another one is being washed and thoroughly dried out.
Despite being washable, foam air filter should be nonetheless replaced every 3 to 6 months - Bissell 2486 CleanView uses Bissell Style 1214 pre-motor foam air filters.
Another option is using Febreze pre-motor air filter which also protects the suction motor, but it also releases the gentle fragrance into the cleaned areas, increasing the feeling of freshness and cleanliness.
Note that Febreze pre-motor air filters are also washable, but it also removes the fragrance from the air filter.
Post-motor air filter is exhaust filter and it is last layer of air filtration system.
Post-motor air filter is pleated air filter and it is NOT washable - from time to time, one can take out the post-motor air filter and tap it onto the inner surface of the trashcan in order to remove surface dirt particles.
This filter should be also replaced every 3-6 months, depending on the vacuum's use and type and amount of vacuumed dirt.
Bissell 2486 CleanView uses Bissell Style 1526 post-motor air filter.
Note: Bissell doesn't state actual HEPA level - Bissell 2486 CleanView is NOT true HEPA vacuum cleaner, although the air filtration is rather good.
Bissell 2486 CleanView Cleaning Tools and Attachments
One of the very important features of the Bissell 2486 CleanView is its ability to carry all additional cleaning tools onboard the unit.
These cleaning tools are combined with 6 feet long cleaning hose for cleaning elevated surfaces and they include:
- Extension Wand increases the cleaning reach, allowing the user to clean even higher surfaces or to clean low on the ground, without much bending - great help for people with back issues.
Extension Wand is not mandatory, since cleaning tools may be used with or without the Extension Wand.
- Crevice Tool is long and narrow cleaning tool, intended for cleaning corners, gaps, crevices (hence the name), edges and similar, hard-to-reach areas.
Note that the Crevice Tool is carried onboard the Bissell 2486 CleanView inside the Extension Wand.
- Dusting Brush is used for dusting of sensitive surfaces and for general cleaning of sensitive upholstery.
As the bristles glide over the surfaces, they agitate the dirt which is than picked up by strong suction.
Also, bristles are able to pull out the dirt embedded in the upholstery and low-pile carpeted stairs and similar surfaces, but obviously, this is not the its main purpose (which is dusting, of course).
- Turbobrush Tool features an air turbine which spins small brushroll used for deep cleaning of the upholstery, carpeted stairs, smaller carpets and area rugs, car seats and similar.
Although Turbobrush Tool cleans very well, it is not maintenance free cleaning tool - it is up to the user to periodically clean the tool, especially its brushroll from entangled lint, hair and similar debris.
Long Story Short: Bissell 2486 CleanView features good suction, long cleaning reach and various cleaning tools making it suitable as the entry-level vacuum in small and medium homes and apartments.
Its low maintenance costs, 2-year limited warranty and affordable price make this unit one of the most popular in its class.
