Bissell 1806 PowerFresh Deluxe Steam Mop Features and Specifications
When it arrives, Bissell 1806 must be assembled first and that can be done rather quickly - just be sure to read the manual, not just to assemble the unit, but to get accustomed to it and its features.
Bissell 1806 steam mop features 12 Amps (1440 watts) water heater - after plugging in the unit, it takes around 30 seconds for the water heater to reach required temperature. In order to start cleaning, the user has to choose steam ON setting and to choose Low or High steam, depending on the floor types and type of dirt that is going to be cleaned.
High steam setting is recommended for cleaning sticky and stubborn stains and dirt from the tiles and similar floors that are highly resistant to steam heat.
Low steam setting is recommended for everyday steam cleaning, especially when cleaning sealed hardwood and laminate floors - if there is a crack in the floor finish, steam can penetrate the floor and cause it over time to buckle and rot!
Main advantage of steam cleaning is that hot steam, in combination with steam mop pads, thoroughly clean and sanitize the floors by killing 99.9% of bacteria and germs found on the floors.
This '99.9%' is achieved in lab tests - in real life the results can be even better, if the user cleans the floor with more hot steam passes.
Bissell 1806 is powered via 25 feet (~7.6 m) long power cord, providing the user with long cleaning reach using just one wall power socket.
When the unit is stored, its power cord is manually wrapped around cord wrap hooks.
Bissell 1806 weighs 5.7 pounds (~2.6 kg) and thanks to its full swivel neck, it is very maneuverable unit, being able to clean around various floor objects and obstacles.
For every day cleaning, Bissell 1806 comes with two types of washable pads:
- white (soft) microfiber steam pad, recommended for everyday cleaning, especially for cleaning sensitive floors like hardwood and laminate.
- scrubby microfiber steam mop pad, which is recommended for cleaning tough stains and messes on the tiles and similar tough floors.
Both soft and scrubby microfiber steam mop pads are machine washable using no bleaches or similar chemicals. Also, they should be air dried.
Cleaning path width is 12 inches (~30.5 cm) allowing the user to clean larger area with ease. Also, due to the steam mop pads design, Bissell 1806 is very good at cleaning corners and especially edges, along the walls.
On average, steam mop pads can be washed 25-30 times, after which they should be replaced with the new ones.
One another very interesting cleaning feature of Bissell 1806 steam mop is SpotBoost Brush.
SpotBoost Brush is intended for scrubbing away tough, stuck-on messes, and to easily clean grout and crevices. SpotBoost Brush is exposed by detaching the mp foot from the rest of the unit via foot pedal on the back of the steam mop.
In order to improve the feeling of freshness and cleanliness, Bissell 1806 comes with two Spring Breeze Fragrance Discs.
Spring Breeze Fragrance Discs release soft, pleasant fragrance - note that some users find it strong(?), but this can be remedied by putting just half or a third of the fragrance disc into the disc tray.
Bissell 1806 - Tap or Distilled Water
Bissell 1806 features built-in water tank, which capacity is 19 ounces (0.56 liters). Also, Bissell 1806 comes with filling cup to help the user quickly add water when required.
In order to prolong the operating life of the unit, Bissell 1806 should be filled with demineralized or distilled water, since common tap water can cause deposits buildup on the inner component of the unit, causing it to fail.
Another option is to use Scented Demineralized Water For Steam Mops, which at the same time leaves no residue on the inner components of the steam mops, leaves no streaks or marks on the cleaned floors and at the same time leaves pleasant fragrance in the air.
Of course, if you are using scented discs, combine them with ordinary distilled or demineralized water - using both scented discs and scented demineralized water at the same time can be little bit too much regarding scents :)
Bissell 1806 and Carpet Gliders
Bissell 1806 is not intended for cleaning carpets and it does not come with the carpet glider by default.
If required, carpet glider can be ordered separately and can be used for steaming the carpets - unit refreshes the carpet and cleans its surface, but it doesn't deeply clean the carpet.
Also, sensitive carpets should not be cleaned using hot steam as it can damage them.
Long Story Short: If you are looking for an affordable steam mop that will help you clean and sanitize your floors, consider this model.
It comes with 2-year limited warranty, it is lightweight and maneuverable, easy to use and maintain and can deeply clean even grout and crevices.
